The Snipping Tool is a Windows dedicated screen capture tool that also allows some image screenshot editing.
The Snipping Tool can be launched by using the windows menu > search for “Snipping Tool”.
It works fine but if you use the new shortcut key i.e ” windows button + shift + s on your keyboard” it allows you to take a screenshot. But it doesn’t allow you to edit or save the said screenshot.
How Do I Fix TheSnipping tool shortcut not working In Windows 10
Solution 1: Check Shortcut Key Properties
From the desktop, click on the Start Button. Type snipping tool in the search bar. Click on “File Location”.
Here you will see the file location of the “Snipping Tool” Right-click on it.
In the Properties window, click on the Shortcut tab. Here if the Shortcut Key shows as None that means you don’t have any shortcut keys set to access the tool.
Click on None and press any key on your Keyboard to set as the shortcut key. Note that you cannot use Windows Key + S combination as it is reserved for something else.
Click on Apply and OK to save the changes.
Close the properties window and press the Shortcut key that you assigned to launch the Snipping tool and you should be able to access the tool without any issues. If not then restart your computer / PC to save and start changes
Solution 2: New Snip and Sketch Tool
Microsoft is replacing the Snipping Tool with the new Snip and Sketch application. As a result, they have dedicated the Shift + Windows Key + S shortcut to the new Snipping Tool.
Press the Shift + Windows Key + S shortcut key and you should be able to access the new Snip and Sketch tool.
Alternatively, if you don’t want to use the long Shift + Windows Key + S combination to open the Snip and Sketch tool, you can use the PrtSc (Print Screen) key to do the same.
Here is how you can set PrtSc (Print Screen) key for the screenshot.
Click on Start and select Settings. Click on Ease of Access.
Under the Interaction section, click on Keyboard. Scroll down to Print Screen Shortcut and enable Use the PrtScn button to open the screen sniping option.
That’s it. If you press the PrtSc key on your keyboard, it will open the Snipping Tool.
