BitLocker is a feature that protects your hard drive from external attacks or offline attacks. This is a full volume encryption feature included with versions of Microsoft Windows (Pro and Enterprise only). It is designed to protect data by providing encryption for entire volumes. In this article, we will show you three quick ways to easily change the BitLocker PIN code in Windows 10.

In Windows 10 and TPM 2.0 now, the length of the BitLocker PIN code has been increased to 6 characters. In addition, the TPM 2.0 lockout period is longer than the default period when a PIN code is changed.

How to change BitLocker PIN code in Windows 10

There are several ways to change a BitLocker PIN code in Windows 10. You can do this through the following methods:

Change the BitLocker PIN using PowerShell

To change the BitLocker PIN code with PowerShell, follow these steps:

Press Windows key + X to access the advanced user menu.

Press A on the keyboard to open PowerShell in administrator mode.

manage-bde -changepin C:

Enter the following command in the PowerShell window and press Enter.

Replace the letter C in the command with the letter (otherwise C) assigned to the system drive that hosts the Windows installation.

Enter the new PIN code when prompted and press Enter.

Confirm the new PIN code and press Enter.

This is the BitLocker PIN code which was successfully changed. Restart the system and check.

Change BitLocker PIN using command prompt

To change the BitLocker PIN code using the command prompt, follow these steps:

Press the Windows key + R to call up the Run dialog box.

Type cmd in the Run dialog box and press the CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER key combination to start the command prompt in administrator mode.

Enter the following command in the CMD window and press Enter.

manage-bde -changepin C:

Replace the letter C in the command with the letter (if not C) assigned to the system drive hosting the Windows installation

Enter the new PIN code when prompted and press Enter.

Confirm the new PIN code and press Enter.

This is the BitLocker PIN code which was successfully changed. Restart the system and check.

Change the BitLocker PIN code using the control panel

To change the BitLocker PIN code using Control Panel, do the following:

  1. Press the Windows key + R to call up the Run dialog box.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type control and press Enter to open the Control Panel.
  3. Now set the panel view to Large Icons.
  4. Click Bitlocker DriveEncryption.
  5. Now click on Change PIN.
  6. If you know the old PIN, enter it, then enter the new PIN and click the Change PIN button. If you do not know the old PIN code, click on Reset forgotten PIN code. Enter the new PIN code and confirm. Click on Set PIN and restart once and check.
